Concealer
The Concealer is used to reduce the appearance of lines and shadows. Use concealer a lighter shade than your skin to "lift" lines and in a darker shade to "reduce" bumps and puffiness. We also offer a wide range of Custom Concealers to cover discolorations.

Tools: Camouflage Brush, Cosmetic Sponge

Using the camouflage brush, apply a small amount of the proper concealer into the center of lines and in the darkest part of shadows. Even if you do not have visible lines, check for the 'appearance' of lines (places where the shape of your face creates the impression of a line (from the sides of the nose down to the mouth, under the bottom lip, at the corners of the mouth, etc.). To cover bumps and puffy areas, use the darker concealer and apply on the high part of the area to be covered. Then use the cosmetic sponge to pat out the concealer. You want to cover the areas, but remove all excess so you do not get "cakey" by the end of the day.

Step 2. Skin Tone Corrector - Optional

The Skin Tone Corrector is designed for very ruddy or very sallow skin that cannot be covered by Foundation. The corrector (mint for ruddiness and lilac for sallowness) should be used only on those areas that are discolored.

Tools: Cosmetic Sponge

Dot a small amount of Corrector on the discolored areas. Dampen the sponge and blot it almost dry. Using the sponge, blend the Corrector over the discolored area. (If the discoloration is over a large area, contact us about Custom Blend Foundation that can incorporate the Corrector into your foundation.)

Step 3. Foundation/Moisture Tint/Bronzer

Foundation and Moisture Tint evens the skin tone and smoothes the appearance and surface of your skin. They also cover imperfections and provide an even finish to your skin. Foundation provides more coverage: Moisture Tints are more sheer for lighter coverage. Bronzer has more tint than regular foundation and is sheerer to give you a sun-touched color, without the sun.

Tools: Cosmetic Sponge

Face Graphic - Foundation

Dot foundation on your forehead, nose, chin and both cheeks. Dampen the sponge and blot it almost dry. Using the sponge, blend the Foundation over the entire face (be careful around the nose and mouth--you don't want to miss anything) going upwards and outwards. Foundation should go just to the jaw (not on the neck or under the chin). For extra coverage, repeat. (Two thin layers cover better and wear better than one thick layer.)

Matching foundation is one of the most important steps for a great looking face. Foundation should match the "average" color of your face. Everyone has darker and lighter spots on their face, but if you select the middle tone, you will get a smooth, even tone.

For the best match, we highly recommend our Custom Blend Foundation, which allows you the widest range of available colors (or we can match your own "perfect" color) and a variety of options for the "perfect" foundation for you. Custom Blend Foundation is available in Enriched (for most skin types), Extra Moisture (for very dry/dehydrated/sun damaged skin types) and Oil Free (for oily skin types). We also have Mineral Make-up in Loose Powder for very sheer, translucent coverage, Mineral Powder Foundation for a powder/foundation in one and Mineral Creme Powder Foundation for a Creme/Powder Foundation. All custom blend products are formulated to your specifications.

Step 4. Shimmer Dust/Creme Highlighters

The Shimmer Dusts are pure shine in a loose powder that can be used to touch up. The Creme Highlighters are slightly less shiny, but are moister for drier skin types (or areas prone to dryness). The hints of shimmer these products provide give an upscale look and an easy day to dinner conversion. Also terrific for maturing skin--it provides a bit of shine and lift.

Tools: Maxi Blender Brush or Blush Brush (Shimmer Dust) or Camouflage Oval 8 Brush (Creme Highlighter)

After applying foundation, use the Shimmer Dust (with the Blush Brush or Maxi Blender Brush) or the Creme Highlighter (with the Camouflage Oval 8 Brush) to add a touch of shine to cheeks, temples and chin.

Step 5. Luminizer/Liquid Radiance

The Luminizer and Liquid Radiance are available in a liquid form, in a variety of colors to add a lift to your complexion. This is especially attractive on maturing skin and on very oily skin that tends to be thick and matte. Apply in a thin layer over your foundation, applying with a cosmetic sponge. Adds lift and life to your skin. You can also mix with your foundation to save a step. The slight shimmer causes light to reflect off your skin, minimizing imperfections, fine lines and "lifeless" looking skin. This really helps brighten your complexion.

Tools: Cosmetic Sponge

Apply on top of your foundation in a thin layer and blend out with your cosmetic sponge or mix 2 parts foundation to 1 part Luminizer/Liquid Radiance and apply to your face with a cosmetic sponge.

Step 6. Loose Powder

Loose powder will set your make-up, keep it looking better, longer and give you a finished look. Your powder should match your foundation (if you buy both from us, we'll match it here). Often you get the right foundation then the powder lightens or darkens your foundation and you throw the color off. (Even translucent powder, while it lacks defined color, does have a "tint.")

Tools: Powder Brush or Chisel Dome Brush

Face Graphic - Powder

Dip the powder brush in the powder, shake loose the excess and dust your face going across on the forehead and down on the cheeks (you can dust over your eyes to set your eye make-up).

Step 7. Mosaic Powder

Mosaic Powder is a multi-colored pressed powder. Because of the multiple colors, it works for everyone and will give you a glow rather than giving you that "pale powdered look." This is great for a mid-day touch-ups and for travelers. The Finishing Powder has a touch of shimmer to brighten, the Perfecting Powder produces a matte finish, the Gleaming Powder has noticeable shine to produce a glow and the Bronzing Powder adds some color (great for a fading tan, or to add a touch of "life" to pale skin).

Tools: Powder Brush, Retractable Powder/Blush Brush or Chisel Dome Brush

Face Graphic - Powder

Dust the brush across the powder and then dust your face going across on the forehead and down on the cheeks.

Step 8. Pro-Finish Powder (Optional)

This tinted, pressed powder can be used wet or dry. It is great for oily skin touch ups during the day (foundation and powder in one) and is terrific for contouring. Select the color that most closely matches your "average" skin tone. This is not recommended for use by normal to dry or dry skin types.

Tools: Cosmetic Sponge, Powder Puff, Powder Brush or Chisel Dome for application. Fan Brush and Angle Contour Brush for contouring.

Apply with a slightly damp sponge (it will dry to powder) or use the brush and dust (across on the forehead, down on the face).

Step 9. Powder Blush

Blush should be used to give a "natural" glow to your cheeks. The color should not be noticeable. Select a color that blends with your natural cheek color (your natural lip color may be a good clue). Our blushes are marked Warm, Cool or Both. If you have pink or cool undertones, select the cool colors. For warm or yellow undertones, select the warm tones. Everyone can wear the colors marked "Both." If you are very fair, the light and medium colors will be fine. If you have very dark skin, the light colors will be too pale. To accent for evening, select a darker shade to be used in the hollow of the cheek.

Tools: Blush Brush, Angle Contour Brush

Face Graphic - Blush

Swipe the blush brush across the blush and then apply lightly, directly on the cheekbone. Step back to view the effect (it is much easier to add more than to lighten it). Blend the blush with the angle contour brush by using it in a circular motion along the edges of the blush to remove the edges. (Don not forget to check your blush again when you have finished your make-up to be sure there is enough color.) If you are using a second color to accent, apply the darker color into the hollow of the cheek (below the other blush) and blend out with the contour brush.

Step 10. Cheek Tint - Alternative

The Cheek Tint is a sheer tint for cheeks that gives a glow rather than noticeable color. It is a semi-liquid consistency (similar to a souffle foundation). Select a color that is similar to your natural cheek tint.

Tools: Cosmetic Sponge

Dot Cheek Tint on your cheekbones and blend out with a sponge for a sheer tint of color. Use a darker color in the hollow for contouring. For more intense color, apply more--blend carefully.

Step 11. Brush-on-Brows - (If Necessary)

Brush-on-Brows darkens light or thin brows naturally. If you color your hair, are very fair or are graying, you may need to accent your brows. Select a color that matches your natural hair or original brow color.

Tools: Angle Brow Brush, Brow/Lash Brush

Brush on Brows

Apply brush-on-brows using the Angle Brow Brush, along the natural brow line. Apply one sweep and step back to view the effect. Apply another sweep or two, if necessary to make your brows noticeable, but not too dark. Use the Brow/Lash Brush to brush through to remove any loose or excess powder.

Step 12. Brow Set

Brow Set is fabulous for setting brush-on-brows so it lasts all day and for taming unruly eyebrow.

Tools: Brow/Lash Brush

Shape brows with Brow/Lash Brush and apply brow set, using the self-contained applicator along the natural brow line.

Step 13. Mascara

Mascara darkens and defines lashes to finish your eyes. Use Black if you have very dark eyes or for evening, otherwise, Brown (which is very dark, but not as harsh) is the color of choice. If you prefer, Dark Navy is also a good selection for blue, blue gray or gray eyes and is an alternative for hazel, brown or green eyes. Dark Navy and Brown are both very dark with just a tint of color, but much softer than black.

Prior to applying mascara, use Lash Primer to define your lashes and add staying power to your mascara (and to help prevent flaking). If you have thin lashes, you can follow this with lash thickener and then your mascara.

The Sensitive Eyes Mascara is suitable for everyone and is safe for contact lens wearers. We recommend using Eye Make-up Remover to remove Mascara and shadows.

Tools: Brow/Lash Brush

Comb out lashes, then coat both sides of upper lashes and catch the ends of the lower lashes in the self-contained applicator to darken the ends. Use the Brow/Lash Brush to comb out any clumps. Longer wearing Mascaras often take a few seconds to dry (so you have an opportunity to remove clumps, which are almost impossible to remove once it is dry).

Progress Check

Your eyes should be less noticeable now, and your skin tone should be even. You should look polished and almost finished (your lips will look extremely bare) and your cheeks should glow.

To Dress the Face Up for Evening

Be sure concealer is properly placed (shadows and lines are more noticeable at night). If your eyes look slightly "sunken in" by the end of the day, use your light concealer all the way out to the edge of the eye. (Do not forget to blend with the sponge.) Use a barely damp sponge to apply foundation and be sure to dust with powder to eliminate shine and set your make-up. Use a slightly heavier hand with your blush and use the darker shade in the hollow to create "hollows." (Be sure and blend the edges off the blush with the contour brush.) Then use the Luminizer or Liquid Radiance to touch up cheeks and temples and give a nice shine for evening. Be sure to do your brows for evening, if necessary. Look at a recent picture and see if you have eyebrows (even people with very dark brows may have noticeable "bare spots"). Do not forget brow set if you use Brush-on-Brows. Apply an extra layer of Mascara (if you are going from day to evening, you can just re-coat your lashes) focusing on the tips. If you have very straight lashes, you should also use an eyelash curler (before your mascara) to turn your lashes up. For "super" lashes, start with clean lashes, apply a coat of Lash Primer, top with Lash Thickener, apply Mascara, use another coat of Lash Thickener and Top with a final coat of Mascara.
